胆
气
胆气为胆的精气，是胆分泌排泄胆汁及主决断生理活动的物质基础及动力来源。胆气是一身之气分布到胆并发挥特定作用的精微物质。胆主决断，调节情志，在精神意识思维活动中具有判断事物、做出决定的作用。胆气壮盛之人，勇于决断，剧烈的精神刺激对其所造成的影响较小，而且恢复也较快；胆气虚怯之人，优柔寡断，百虑不决，在受到不良精神刺激的影响时，则易于出现胆怯易惊、善恐、失眠、多梦等精神情志异常的病变。

【Gallbladder Qi】
The term refers to the way of thinking that appropriate therapeutic methods should be determined based on the differentiation of primary factors and secondary factors, the branch and the root, the minor and the major, as well as the non-acute and the acute and on the analysis of their relationships among the various factors in complicated and variable patterns. Biao and ben, literally referring to the branch and the root of a plant, can be figuratively used to explain the relationship between the primary and the secondary factors. Therefore, as a pair of contrary concepts, they have multiple connotations in different contexts. For example, with respect to healthy qi (root), pathogenic qi is regarded as the branch in the disease development. In the relation between disease cause and symptoms, the latter is the branch. In terms of disease sequence, the old or primary disease is the root and the new or secondary disease is the branch. Finally, as for diseased sites, the internal zang-fu organs are viewed as the roots and the exterior manifestations are the branches. In terms of treating complex patterns, it is advisable to identify the primary conflict or the primary aspect of the conflict, distinguishing the primary from the secondary, the major from the minor, as well as the acute from the nonacute to cure diseases. Generally, in acute and severe cases, either the branch or the root should be treated first if it is acute; if both are acute, they should be treated at the same time. In non-acute cases, the root should be treated first or both the root and the branch are treated at the same time.
